More than 30 athletes ages 10–14 came out for the Spartanburg Flames Middle School Basketball Camp, held July 6–10. Over four days of instruction, competition, and games, players worked to improve the individual skills and team concepts they will need for the upcoming basketball season.
Each day of camp focused on a different part of the game. Day One was dedicated to ball handling, as players worked on controlling the basketball, changing direction, protecting the ball, and attacking defenders. Day Two focused on shooting fundamentals, footwork, and finishing around the basket.
Day Three challenged athletes on the defensive end of the court. Players practiced proper positioning, communication, rebounding, and the effort required to become dependable team defenders. On the final day, campers brought everything together through Basketball IQ, decision-making, and team play.
Coach Harvey and Coach Smith kept the energy high throughout the week, handing out plenty of candy, prizes, and Flames swag during drills, competitions, and games. The coaches were proud of the effort, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn shown by the entire group.
Special congratulations go to Jaylin Templeton, who earned the title of Basketball IQ Camp Champion for his strong play, smart decision-making, and understanding of the game. Honorable mention to Carson Hines who won our shooting contest, and both Zach Maltsev and Salem Harvey for winning their defensive lockdown contests in their respective age groups. Each received a camp champion ball to take home.
Thank you to every athlete and family who helped make the week a success. We look forward to seeing these players continue to grow in skill, confidence, teamwork, and character both on and off the court. As always, thank you to New Prospect Baptist Church in Inman, for hosting our camp and for your continued support of the Spartanburg Flames.
